About the Authors
Allen Berger, Ph.D.
Dr. Berger is a nationally recognized authority on the science of recovery. He is uniquely qualified. His own personal journey in recovery started 37 years ago on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. Dr. Berger received his doctorate in clinical psychology form the University of California, Davis. He has a reputation as a dynamic and engaging presenter and trainer, as well as a very practical, “no-nonsense” therapist.

He is the author of several professional journal articles well as two books: Love Secrets – Revealed (HCI Books, 2006) and 12 Stupid Things that Mess up Recovery (Hazelden, 2008) which is a Hazelden’s best seller. His pamphlet How to Get the Most out of Group Therapy (Hazelden, 2007) is a Hazelden Classic has sold over 60,000 copies. It helps educate new patients about group therapy, and teaches them how to use the group sessions to get the most out of treatment.
